Rinjani is on Lombok — a short flight or fast-boat ride from Bali. Here's every option, from budget public transport to door-to-trailhead private transfers, with honest travel times.
Total journey time: ~4–5 hours door to Sembalun
The fastest and most reliable way. The flight from Bali (Ngurah Rai / DPS) to Lombok International Airport (Praya / LOP) takes 30–40 minutes. Multiple airlines operate this route daily — Lion Air, Citilink and Wings Air are the most frequent, with fares typically ranging from Rp 250,000–600,000 one way depending on how far in advance you book.
From Lombok airport (located near Praya in south Lombok), it's approximately 85 km and 2.5–3 hours by car to Sembalun Village, the main trailhead.

Fast boats depart from Padang Bai (east Bali) to Teluk Nare or Bangsal harbour on Lombok's north coast. The boat crossing itself takes approximately 2 hours, but factor in travel time to Padang Bai from central Bali (~1.5–2 hours) and the drive from Bangsal to Sembalun (~1.5 hours). Total journey: most of a day.
Fares are typically Rp 300,000–450,000 per person. Bluewater Express and Gili Getaway operate this route. Book in advance during peak season.
Mataram (the capital) and Senggigi (the main tourist strip) are both well-connected to Sembalun. The drive takes approximately 2–2.5 hours and covers about 75–85 km through the island's eastern highlands.
The airport is in south Lombok, roughly 85 km from Sembalun — about 2.5–3 hours by car. Bluebird Taxi and Lombok Taksi operate at the airport. Agree on a fixed price before you get in; around Rp 350,000–450,000 is reasonable.
Gili Trawangan, Gili Air and Gili Meno are all connected to Bangsal harbour on Lombok by fast boat (10–20 minutes, Rp 20,000–30,000 local price). From Bangsal it's approximately 1.5 hours by private car to our office in Pemenang, then on to Sembalun.
If you book with us, pickup from Bangsal area is included in your package — you just need to get yourself to the harbour.
When you book a trek with us, free pickup is included from the Mataram, Senggigi and Bangsal areas. Just tell us where you're staying and your arrival time — we handle the logistics from there to the trailhead.
